The story
Some heroes never appear in history books. My grandfather was one of them: a Colombian soldier in the Colombian Battalion, a group of military volunteers sent to support United States forces in the Korean War.
The idea
KOREA 1950 searches for visual metaphors for duality, contrast and the collision of two cultures separated by geography, language and war. The distance between Colombia and Korea becomes a symbolic frontier as much as a physical one: the strangeness of a landscape, a culture and a conflict utterly foreign to the men sent to fight in it.
At its core this is a story of war and memory: turning forgotten courage into visible memory, and my attempt to reconstruct the silence my grandfather left behind.
